It is well known that if you go alone, you will go fast. But if you go accompanied, you will go far. In this case, we are happy to say that thanks to the commitment to our land and the values of Biosphere Reserve, which we have talked about before, today we reach a new milestone: we are a BGreen establishment!
But, what does this new title translate to? The BGreenMenorca line is a grant launched by the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Agency to promote sustainability among tourism businesses. In the specific case of Sant Joan de Binissaida, we have been granted assistance worth 4,274.73€ that we will use to make the exterior lighting of our property more efficient.
Why this line? Apart from being able to reduce energy consumption and make the exterior lighting of Sant Joan de Binissaida more efficient, it will contribute in two aspects. On one hand, it will help preserve biodiversity by avoiding very powerful or disturbing lights. And, on the other, it will reduce light pollution, enhancing the observation of the night sky. And it is that in Menorca we have a sky that seems from another galaxy! For this reason, the island was declared in 2019 as a Starlight destination and reserve, which we will talk about later.
With this action from the BGreen grants, we also want to promote a more sustainable, conscious, and responsible model of tourism towards the maintenance of the values of the Biosphere Reserve.
In this union to go far and make the project of Sant Joan de Binissaida a reality, we have counted on the financing from the Sustainable Tourism Tax funds and the Agència Menorca Reserva de Biosfera.
