1.09.2019 - Binissaida
From this, our rural home, we are very aware of the importance of protecting the paradise that is Menorca and trying to minimize our impact on the environment.
The past July 29, 2019, was Earth Overshoot Day, the date when all the resources that the planet is capable of producing in 365 days were depleted, and it moves forward a few days each year.
In San Joan de Binissaida, we are firmly committed to fighting against all odds to reverse this climate crisis, and for this reason, we advocate for responsible and efficient hospitality in all aspects. Thus, we have our own vegetable garden, livestock, and olive groves, and most of our gastronomic offerings come from what we produce ourselves. It sounds difficult, but we have achieved it, and it makes us very happy that this is the case.
The other day, we read in the Menorca newspaper that over 50,000 olive trees have been planted on the island. And it’s that this Mediterranean enclave no longer lives solely on wine and Mahón cheese, but there is a very significant movement of new plantings that reveal a spectacular future. Come on, they are even looking for a designation of origin seal! And the future will be eco or it will not be.
Moreover, our liquid gold has a thousand and one health benefits, so it must be part of these vacations in Menorca to disconnect and reconnect and regenerate yourself inside and out. Some of the benefits that oil can do for you:
Currently, in our family of olive trees, there are 600 specimens, and we produce three different types of extra virgin olive oil:
Of course, we encourage you to try any of our proposals at the restaurant of San Joan de Binissaida, which is in the hands of the geniuses at Ses Forquilles, who understand Menorcan traditional cuisine from a very personal and authentic perspective.
Our special tip from a friend if you want to be left speechless: you can't miss our “Coca de vidre” with tomato, Binissaida blend extra virgin olive oil, and Fornells salt. Absolutely exquisite.
In this Menorcan hotel, we couldn't like agrotourism more, and what about you? What do you think of products made in Menorca? What would you like us to incorporate into our green hotel that I want to be green? Let us know in the comments, as we read all of them, every single one.
