Eco Tourism: This is how a sustainable rural hotel works

23.08.2017 - Binissaida

We tell you how a sustainable rural hotel should operate and what changes we have made to care for the environment.
In Sant Joan de Binissaida, we have worked hard to make our hotel as sustainable as possible. Through a large number of projects, we have managed to make our hotel part of ecological tourism, and we love it!

Discover how a sustainable hotel works.

In order for a hotel to be sustainable, it should consume the minimum possible resources, making use of the natural resources available to it and minimizing the impact on them as much as possible. Although it's almost impossible to be 100% sustainable, there are essential aspects that an accommodation should follow:

  • Having a photovoltaic power plant that produces electricity or solar panels to use solar energy for the production of hot water, lights, sprinklers, and other equipment that needs occasional energy.
  • Having recycling bins throughout the hotel and reusing all resources as much as possible to reduce waste.
  • Saving water with control systems for taps and toilets.

At Sant Joan de Binissaida, being a committed rural hotel, we contribute to environmental protection thanks to the following reforms:

  • Reforestation of empty hectares with native species of the area, in our case pines and wild olive trees, to create a forestry that protects the land and livestock nearby.
  • Recovery and maximum reuse of original constructions to avoid using new resources. At Binissaida, all the “dry stone” walls surrounding the hotel grounds have been restored.
  • Cultivation of our own products, whether with barns, gardens, or livestock, so that the hotel has high-quality natural food. In our case, most of our fresh products come from the hotel's garden.

These are the most important aspects that a sustainable hotel should follow, and we meet them all! Come visit us if you want to discover how great it is to stay in a sustainable accommodation, we look forward to seeing you!
